Manila's factory( the man behind MSD) has been busy in the last week, he had Ian Zamora as guest shaper making boards for him and surfcenter, and his own shapes are stacking up on the walls giving Helder a glassing headache...
I had the chance of being around in some stages and took these frames of foam and fiberglass life in PT...
A fábrica do Manila( o shaper por de trás da MSD) tem estado em velocidade de cruzeiro na última semana...o Ian Zamora esteve por lá a shapar para ele e surfcenter ... e os seus próprios shapes estão a esgotar as paredes resultando numa grande dor de cabeça para o Helder...
Tive a oportunidade de deambular por lá e tirar fotos de foam e fibra de vidro a vibrar de vida por estas terras Lusas...

Ian´s 757 quad

ZAMORA SURFBOARDS 757 quad fish,

Tenho recebido alguns emails sobre um set up pouco ortodoxo os 757...
resolvi pedir ao Ian ,que desenha a sua 4 fin fish com estes fins em
mente, algumas ideias sobre como estes funcionam...

I received some emails regarding a weird 4 fin set up template, the 757's...
so i emailed Ian who designs his 4 fins fishes around this set up and got
this reply:

"I spent the weekend at Jimmys( Jim Robertson from LOKBOX) and I
tried to pick his brain regarding the 757 fins.
Theres not much history and theory behind them that we could find.
It was used for a quad setup back in the 80s in Australia and Hawaii.
U remember how these things felt, lots of hold in the bottom and release
of the top,a  really fast and maneuverable fin.  
This will be my main fin for the double wing fishes I make.
All of them will have a standard single concave deck too."

De entre os vários shapes que o Ian faz uns amigos escolheram este 2+1 para seu deleito conspirador....é uma prancha que inevitavelmente traz á mente as stubbies do MP no filme Morning of the Earth , a drifta do Terry Fitzgerald com as suas inspiradas sessões em J-Bay no ínicio do anos 80 ,e as mais recentes sessões de Neal Purchase Jr. no filme Glass Love de A. Kidman...
Outline largo e curto( 5'8 a 6'2), slope rails, o já habitual duplo côncavo a canalizar a água pelos fins, algum V em partes estratégicas, e um rocker suave....Segundo o Ian este design têm um down the line speed semelhante a uma fish mas com un fin central com algum rake(projecção do tip do fin em relação á base) faz uns loucos cutbacks e bottom turns...mal podemos esperar!

Ian Zamora por terras Lusas no final do mês de Outubro...
como estamos próximos do Inverno o peixe vai ser substituído pela posta à mirandesa e os brancos verdes ou maduros por tintos carregados de taninos courtesia do verão infernal que o Douro impõem na uva....ah e esperamos ondas com tamanho e boa forma para tirar este verão da nossa memória...

we are very close to winter fish and white wines will be replaced by the big steak called posta à mirandesa and heavy red wine with strong taninos courtesy of the summer like hell that Douro valley has...oh and we hope for some good size waves in good form to get the memory of summer out of our head...
